Baxter Greene of Granite Falls, N.C., shot a net 66 Friday, September 1, 2006 to win the 2006 PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship Playoff at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Greene captured the title with a two-stroke lead over Carlton Carr of Enterprise, Ala. A 24-handicap golfer, Greene earned a spot in Friday's World Championship Playoff by winning flight number 21.

“What a great week of golf,” said Baxter Greene, 2006 PGA Tour Superstore World Amateur Handicap Champion. “This was my second time at the World Am and I can definitely say that this is the best amateur golf tournament in the country. I would like to thank the World Am staff for running such a well organized tournament and The Dunes Club for allowing us to play on such a championship golf course.”

The 23rd annual PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship was held August 28 – September 1, 2006 and attracted 3,829 golfers to play on 55 Myrtle Beach golf courses from 47 states and 24 foreign countries. Nearly 100 golfers played this year in each of the 39 flights, with all flight winners and five additional golfers who tied advancing to compete in 18-hole World Championship play-off.

The 2006 World Am gave away over $500,000 in prizes, including a $160,000 Myrtle Beach villa in Berkshire Forest Thursday night to David Weems of Detroit, Michigan, in the Centex Homes Villa Quest.
